What is ABA Therapy?
ABA Therapy in Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, and South Carolina
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the process of studying behavior to introduce appropriate behavioral interventions. In the simplest terms, ABA Therapy services break down everyday processes and situations into small, easy-to-understand steps. Those steps are learned, repeated and reinforced until they become an unaided behavior.
ABA is a well-known and effective treatment for children with autism when done in a high quality and intensive manner. ABA services encompass a variety of evidence-based treatment methods to address all types of behaviors. It can be used to help individuals with autism spectrum disorder live a more fulfilling life.
At Connec-to-Talk, we use ABA Therapy to teach new skills, reduce socially inappropriate behaviors and increase positive desired behaviors. Examples of areas addressed in ABA sessions include social skills, play, language, academics, self-care, and self-direction. All of our facilities have modern, fully-equipped sensory-motor gyms. Because we provide Early Intervention Services, our ABA therapy is considered comprehensive. Learn more about comprehensive vs focused aba therapy below.
Comprehensive ABA vs. Focused ABA
Comprehensive ABA Therapy
Designed for children who need broad, ongoing support across multiple areas of development.
- Addresses multiple skill domains at once (communication, behavior, social skills, daily living)
- Goals are long-term and developmental.
- Often recommended for younger children or those with significant support needs.
- Focuses on building foundational skills across many environments.
- Comprehensive ABA therapy hours range from 20-40 hours weekly.
Focused ABA Therapy
Focused ABA Therapy is typically used for children who require less intensive support or need support with specific skills or behaviors.
- Targets a smaller set of clearly defined goals.
- Goals are short-term and skill-specific.
- Often appropriate for older children or those with targeted challenges
- Emphasizes strengthening or reducing specific behaviors
- Focused ABA therapy hours require no less than 10 hours weekly of intervention.
